- What is a solar water heater?
- A solar water heater is a device that uses solar radiation to warm up water up to 80 degrees Celsius.
- What size of Solar Water Heater do I need?
- It depends on how many households you have. Each person uses an average of 30L hot water a day. For example, a household of 5 people calculation would be as follows: 5 persons x 30L = 150L hot water a day. Which means the best system for you must be at least 150L.
- Does it use electricity?
- No. You don’t need electricity in normal situations, Aruba’s sun is more than enough to produce around 75-degree Celsius water in less than 6 hours. However, every Solar Water Heater comes with a build-in electric booster as backup in case more than usual hot water is needed or in long cloudy days. So, you always have the option to run a 220V cable to the Solar Water Heater as backup.
- What kind of roof do I need to place a Solar Water Heater?
- It can be installed on almost any kind of roof. Ask for a site inspection in order for us to give you advice on that matter.
- What is the surface area needed to install on the roof?
- Elsol 160L measurements are: Length=2.60m, Width=1.30m and Height= 0.92m
- How long does the installation take?
- Normally installation and commissioning take one day.
- Will the water get hot?
- Of course, with Aruba’s sunshine, up to 80 degrees Celsius.
- How does it work?
- All our Solar hot water systems, where the tank is roof mounted, use the Thermosiphon principle to collect heat from the sun and transfer it to your hot water. The Thermosiphon principle is based on two naturally occurring phenomena:
- Dark objects absorb heat.
- Hot water rises.
The solar collectors are coated with a heat-absorbent coating. This coating absorbs the energy from the sun’s rays and heats the water in the collectors. As the water heats, it rises to the top of the collectors and into the tank where it displaces cooler water which flows into the bottom of the collectors where the process is repeated.
- How long does the Solar Water Heater last?
- Over 20 years if maintained properly.
- What is the warranty?
- 5 years.

- Does Solar Hot Water work on cloudy or rainy days?
- Anyone who has ever been sunburnt on an overcast day knows that it takes more than a few clouds to block out the sun. While clouds may filter out some of the brightness, the majority of sunlight still gets through. So, if you have solar hot water collectors on your rooftop, rest assured, they’re still working to produce hot water even on those wet and cloudy days. However, continuous days of cloudy weather can sometimes reduce the efficiency of your solar water heater. All our Solar Water Heaters come with an inbuilt electric booster. This means that as soon as the water temperature drops below a certain level, the booster element kicks in and heats the water to the correct temperature.
